“For the Truant & the Fluent” takes us back to designer Tommy Bogo’s formative years in high school where his love for design and fashion began. For SS23, Bogo celebrates the students who followed their passion despite the social pressures and academic demands that come with being a student. The runway/”hallway” includes skits throughout the show and serves as a time machine back into the halls of high school, honoring this formative period of our lives.
The SS23 collection reflects on the many characters and personalities of the student body of Bogo’s school. From the jock to the artsy kid, Bogo has designed a wardrobe to reflect these students while adding his signature utilitarian functionalities to each individual’s outfit.
Bogo credits his school’s music and art classes for opening a creative window for the designer to express himself. “For the Truant & the Fluent” stands to encourage school boards to fund the arts as many of these programs have been suffering from budget cuts.
While the show celebrates academics, arts, as well as Bogo’s beginnings, it also foreshadows the future of the young designer and where he will take his design career beyond New York Fashion Week.
