The reason why emails go to spam is due to WordPress' setup. WordPress uses wp_mail() to send emails by default, which basically uses PHP. Sending emails through PHP is seen as very spammy by email providers because there are no SPF or DKIM records and therefore most of the time completely blocked by providers.
Gmail, Hotmail and Outlook are very fussy with emails and if they suspect spam, they'll usually block it or send it to the spam folder. I've had cases with Gmail where emails won't even go to spam, but be completely blocked. This tutorial will help you overcome that problem.
WordPress emails going to spam is a serious issue for WordPress sites and can end up with you not receiving emails from your contact forms, and sometimes missing out on business.
