SPOONFLOWER UPDATE FOR DESIGNERS
I’m not personally a fan of Spoonflower as a Designer BUT it is bringing in some changes from January 2024 that I think make a lot of sense!
1. NO MORE SWATCHES 🎉 One of my bugbears about Spoonflower is that you have to pay for fabric swatches of every design that you upload PLUS shipping, so it was quite pricey! You also had to wait for the swatches to arrive before the listings could be made”Active”.
Now Spoonflower will offer a digital-proofing tool instead, which will save time and 💸💸
2. UPLOAD LIMIT: There will be a weekly upload limit of 25 designs per Designer, per week. I think this is reasonable, and will slow down an already oversaturated marketplace as the “No Swatches” policy takes effect.
3. DELISTING: Any designs that are over 2 years old and haven’t sold within the last 2 years, and have less than 50 “likes” will be delisted. I think this is awesome! It’s really hard to be seen on Spoonflower because of the massive volume of designs on there, so this is another way that Spoonflower are trying to combat the oversaturation issue.
4. COMMISSION CHANGES: This isn’t mentioned in the video, but it’s still worth mentioning that previously Designers have received 10% royalty on each sale whether the item was bought at a discount or not. Beginning in January, artists will earn 10% of the total sale price, meaning if the order was discounted they’ll earn less than before. This will be capped so that the Artist never earns less than 5% commission.
What do you think to these changes??
