Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, was disqualified by the High Court on the grounds of contempt of court. The High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had summoned the Prime Minister to appear in court to answer to the charge of insulting the judiciary. During the hearing, Prime Minister Ilyas appeared before the court and requested an unconditional apology from the Supreme Judiciary.
The court had summoned Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas on Tuesday at 12 o'clock after his alleged comment about putting his foot down and seeing smoke, in reference to Saudi Arabia's 5 billion rupee development fund. Ilyas defended himself, stating that he did not intend to insult the court. However, the court declared the Prime Minister disqualified while pronouncing the verdict in the case, making this the first time in Azad Kashmir's history that a Prime Minister has been disqualified for contempt of court. The decision may have significant political implications for the region, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
