The Jaguar I-Pace has been on sale for the past three years now. As has been so often the case historically, Jaguar Automotive has been at the forefront of embracing change and automotive advancement. The true symbiosis between form and green function is the basis and to experience this further, we spent some time away at the microcosm that is Babylonstoren. A premium accommodation, culinary and natural sensation which focuses on sustainability, much like the Automakers focus on being fully electric by 2025.
Leading by example
As I mentioned, the I-Pace isn’t new news, it is, however, a commitment to embracing an electric future and a commitment to a vision which others have only started to follow more recently.
So, at this point you’re most probably asking “what’s new with this latest incarnation?” For starters, the range has been increased substantially with the I-Pace now able to achieve and possibly exceed 470 kilometres. A commitment of over R30-million and Jaguar’s collective effort to roll out an extensive fast-charging network with Gridcars in South Africa has really made range anxiety somewhat a thing of the past.
With this covered, we move on to some of the other substantial upgrades with this latest generation. A new style grille is featured, darkened alloys and accents, and an improved drag coefficient which is amongst the best anywhere in the global auto market.
Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and uprated Meridian Audio with extra speakers make for impressive multimedia choices, further enhanced by the latest-generation JLR PIVI Pro Multimedia system. A full body-length panoramic roof sets the light-filled cabin ambience with premium seating and quality on the interior to match the slick, sporting and sophisticated exterior.
The I-Pace was striking from its inception, and I think it’s fair to say it looks just as good three years on.
In Conclusion
Priced at just above R2-million, Jaguar's latest-generation I-Pace is a chance to show what is possible, a glimpse into a forward-thinking vision that others are quickly beginning to follow the more actively within the past few months. The inclusion of an 8-year battery warranty, constantly improving charge grid network and commitment to being a fully electric automaker only further concretes Jaguar’s devotion to a carbon-neutral future. If this is anything to go off, “I want in.”
