The sorceress sends her troll to kill the girl next, but since the men found their way into the sorceress' castle hideaway and killed her, they found the petrification substance. They will use it on the troll to turn it into a stone statue, and then on the guy who is about to kill the good guy protagonist. As soon as he's hit with the substance (on the tip of the arrow), he's converted into a stone statue. They place the 2 stone statues on display for everyone to see, to remind the citizens of the town just how evil things WOULD have been, if these 2 hadn't ever been turned to stone.
