Going about the usual business and setting the scene for the fourth instalment of The Insurance Apprentice 2018, the first episode, sponsored by Aon South Africa, introduces us to the 2018 apprentices.
The apprentices are given their first task of the series by judge Simon Colman, Executive Head: Digital Distribution at SHA Specialist Underwriters - aka Judge Dread, Vuyo Lee, Chief Marketing Officer at Old Mutual Emerging Markets (OMEM) and guest judge Terence Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Aon South Africa.
The task, focusing on negotiation skills, challenged the candidates with the following scenario: They are brokers, dealing with a renewal. The judges are the clients and they must sell an increase in fees/commission. They also had to convince the client to buy one new cover. With the ultimate decision maker in the hands of the broker, the difficulty was in selling new cover that was not currently covered. Did the brokers ultimately convince the client and provide a compelling argument as to why the fees should be increased?
But wait… there is more! Someone walked away with a R10 000 cash prize, sponsored by FAnews. Watch episode one to find out who walked away with the prize.
The winner of The Insurance Apprentice 2018 will fly to London, in business class, for a week to visit Lloyds of London; the winner will also receive a bursary valued at R75 000 from INSETA and win a cash prize of R20 000 from Masifunde Training Centre. The Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) is also sponsoring the winner to go to the Insurance Conference at Sun City in July 2018.
