In St. John’s, John Haggie, Newfoundland and Labrador’s minister of health, and Dr. Rosann Seviour, the province's acting chief medical officer of health, provide an update on the province’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They are joined by Dr. Proton Rahman, a clinical scientist with Eastern Health and associate dean of clinical research in the faculty of medicine at Memorial University. Dr. Seviour also announces new guidelines, which will go into effect at midnight for children 12 and under travelling to the province. Children of fully vaccinated travellers must avoid long-term care facilities, camps, sporting events, and large crowded environments for 14 days. Children of unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers must self-isolate for two weeks. The province is also reporting 16 new cases, with 15 located in the Central Health region.
