A 40 year flashback to the first taste of both critical and chart success for Renee Geyer. Named as Female Performer of the Year and with a successful album and single of the same name; Renee was, at just 21, on her way!
With a remarkable voice and impossible to pigeonhole, Renee's reputation as Australia's premier vocalist, came out of her 1970's LPs: The self titled one of 1973, 1975's 'Ready to deal'. 1976's 'Really really love you' and 1977's 'Moving Along'. But it is the 1974 recorded 'It's a Man's Man's World' which was the catalyst.
A simply wonderful interpretation of the James Brown classic, Renee made it her own, and in so doing established her as a distinctive artist and vocalist that possessed a unique tone. Why she did not become either a major sensation at home or on the world stage is for a much longer considered essay! Needless to say, after 40 years Renee Geyer is much loved, respected and still very much in demand.
'Man's World' entered the Australian Top 100 January 6, 1975 and it would only narrowly miss the Top 40. Nearly a year later, to the day, was the chart entry of another song that would become a signature tune (one of many) for Renee: "Heading in the right direction'. 'Man's world' is far from her biggest seller, but it is an important bookmark in the local culture & certainly for her career.
