대한민국 역사박물관 정전 60주년 특별전시
This Saturday marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement which brought a ceasefire on the Korean peninsula.
Various events are taking place across the nation to mark the occasion. one of which kicked off at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History on this Tuesday.
Our cultural correspondent Park Ji-won was there.
The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History is now hosting "60 Years After the Armistice" to commemorate the anniversary of the agreement. that put a stop to the 37-month-long war. that broke out in 1950. when North Korea invaded the South in a surprise attack.
An estimated 2-million people were killed or injured during the war,. and most of the infrastructure on the peninsula was devastated.
The exhibition displays rare pictures of the war, confidential documents, copies of the armistice agreement. and more.
" As a history major, I'm really interested in history anyway, but it was really cool to see the history of the Korean War from the Korean perspective. The exhibition was really informative, really simple, really clear and I feel like I know a lot more about Korean history now."
"The exhibition was very informative and helpful for Westerners who I don't think we have the same sort of collective knowledge of the Korean War, and it was very helpful for us and very easy for us to understand this obviously very important part of history."
The exhibition also shows how rapidly South Korea has developed economically and democratically. following the destruction of war in just six decades.
"This exhibition aims to teach Korea's younger generations,. those who didn't experience the war,. about the pains of the conflict, and help them realize just how precious freedom and peace is."
Visitors can also watch rare video footage of the demilitarized zone. that separates South and North Korea.
The exhibition is free and open to the public,. and runs through September 1st.
