I taught high school Biology, Genetics, and Science Research Projects for 42 years (retiring in the spring of 2020). The last 36 years of teaching were at Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana. In 2017 I was fortunate to be one of 5 preschool through 12th grade teachers selected from across the United States to be inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame (NTHF). Since the NTHF (located at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas) opened in 1992, I was only the 6th Indiana teacher who had ever been inducted. This video was shown during the induction ceremonies at the NTHF in the summer of 2017 and provides a glimpse into my classroom.
I’m retired from the classroom, so now I enjoy giving occasional keynote talks and workshops to educators because I have a passion for encouraging teachers and sharing teaching tips that I’ve picked up over four decades. Creating nontraditional teaching strategies designed to inspire reluctant learners (and of course the eager ones!) has always been a challenge that I have loved.
