It was full steam ahead for a new wood-fired sauna as they gave a warm welcome to their first customers on Friday, April 21. A stone’s throw from the sea and Cornwall’s iconic lido, Jubilee Pool, the traditional barrel sauna business is hoping to bring a bit of Finnish culture to West Penwith’s flourishing cold-water swimming community.
Set up by friends 26-year-old Gabby Gaffney and 39-year-old Jenny Garland, Rising Embers offers saunas by the sea in the tranquil surroundings of St Anthony Gardens in Penzance. However, it is not just sea swimmers they are hoping to tempt into their wooden sauna, Jenny says: “Our customer is anybody who likes to get hot and sweaty in a sauna. There is a myriad of benefits from sauna culture.”
