June 5 is World Environment Day. This year’s theme is “Beat plastic pollution”, a call for action to address one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. Among the world’s many initiatives in this fight is Plastic Bank, a social enterprise that is helping to reduce plastic waste while alleviating poverty in developing countries, including Brazil, which is the world’s fourth-largest producer of plastic waste. Lucrecia Franco has the story from Rio de Janeiro.
