More than 9,000 drought-related cattle deaths have been recorded in Zimbabwe, according to a Livelihoods Assessment Committee Report. At least 1.4 million cattle are at high risk due to the El Nino-induced drought. The government has responded by launching the national livestock drought mitigation program, which targets villagers in the hard-hit, Matabele-land South Province.
