With Taylor Swift's concerts in Toronto just two months away, demand for tickets remains high. But scammers are targeting ticket seekers and it could cost "Swifties" a lot of money.
Torontian Andrea Accinelli saw a Facebook post advertising four concert tickets for November, and quickly decided to buy them all given their reasonable prices. After a long series of communications online, Accinelli sent an e-transfer of $1,400 to the seller — only to get back fake tickets the next day.
“When somebody wants something, they might be more likely to overlook red flags that pop up,” Accinelli says in a warning to others. “Make sure you get the person on the telephone. If they don't want to take your phone calls, they probably aren't legit.”
She filed a complaint with York Regional Police, but authorities say the scammer may be nearly impossible to locate.
