Once upon a time, Mercedes-Benz had the S-Class limousine as its flagship, but then it followed the money and released the GLS upper-large SUV as its higher-riding, more practical alternative. Then the German brand went all-electric with the EQS sedan and now it's been followed by at aptly named EQS SUV.
Point being, the new EQS SUV is the S-Class of SUVs, albeit with a zero-emissions twist. Needless to say, expectations are high as it's tasked with offering would-be BMW iX and Audi Q8 e-tron buyers pause for thought with its larger body and newer powertrain and multimedia technology.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Andrew Chesterton attends the EQS SUV's Australian media launch to find out if it truly combines the best elements of the S-Class with an EV powertrain in an SUV body. Easier said than done, of course.
