Indonesian authorities have raised the alert level on the island of Java as Mount Semeru begins pouring lava and smoke.

An exclusion zone of eight kilometres has been set up, forcing the evacuation of around 2,000 people.

Semeru's eruption follows a series of earthquakes throughout the country in recent weeks.
