This dish is typically known to originate from Hungary but the Americans have adopted it and in the New England states it's called American Chop Suey. It's a comfort meal, easy to make in the crockpot and very filling.
Crockpot Goulash
CrockPot Goulash
2 lbs Ground Turkey (in place of beef)
1 ½ Medium Onion
3 cloves Garlic
1 Green Pepper
6 oz Tomato Paste
½ c. Water (if too thick, increase water to 1 ½ to 2 cups)
24 oz. Pasta Sauce
28 oz. Diced Tomatoes
2 T. Worcestershire Sauce
8 oz. Mushrooms (canned), use fresh on hand
1 T. Italian Seasoning
½ t. Seasoning Salt
3 cups pasta shells
1. Brown ground beef (or Turkey), onions and garlic until no longer pink remains. Drain any fat.
2. Add ground beef (turkey) mixture to CrockPot. Add all remaining ingredients except the uncooked shells.
3. Cook on High for 2 hours or low for 4-5 hours.
4. Prepare shells al dente according to package directions. Drain well and stir into meat sauce. Cover and cook an additional 10 minutes to heat through.
Serve with Buttermilk Biscuits
