F-15 D-Day Heritage Jet Markings The 48th Fighter Wing from RAF Lakenheath low level training in the Mach Loop, which I've been lucky enough over the past few years to be able to see through there, the 3 USAF F-15s, 492d "Madhatters", 493d "Grim Reapers"& 494th "Panthers" Fighter Squadrons that are based at RAF Lakenheath, which were given incredible paint schemes to commemorate 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy.
Only the F-15C (493d) still has it's colour scheme, the other 2 jets have been repainted back to their original colour, the best place to try and see the 493d aircraft during the week days would be at RAF Lakenheath, you maybe lucky enough to see it taking off and landing there, as it's not seen very often flying low level though the Mach Loop.
The heritage colour schemes were based on the P-47 Thunderbolts flow by the USAF in Europe during World War 2.
I read it took more than 600 man hours between 10 people to repaint each jet.

I've put together a little video from segments of other videos I've created, with the 3 Heritage jets as part of the video, flying low level through the Mach Loop, as well as some of 3 Squadrons F-15s based at RAF Lakenheath.
As you'll see in the video, some of the passes the camera is very unsteady, I've included these in the video just to show you how windy it can get on times in and around the Mach Loop, so make sure if you're planning on going there have warm clothes on, it might be warm in the car park, but 9 times out of 10 it's a lot more colder and windier on the top of the hills.
You'll normally find me sitting in my Quechua pop up tent when go to the Mach Loop, it can be sunny one minute up there, then it's blowing a gale and snowing the next.
