Mönchengladbach is situated in Western Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia), north-west of Dusseldorf, and is known worldwide as the home of the renowned Borussia-Park stadium due to its famous soccer club.

Mönchengladbach is made up of a collection of boroughs centered around the ancient towns of Gladbach and Rheydt. The Bunter Garten, which divides Gladbach into two, is one of Mönchengladbach's many green areas. Some of these parks are medieval in nature, with palaces from the Baroque and Renaissance periods such as Schloss Rheydt and Schloss Wickrath at their center. Many international sports enthusiasts may be familiar with the city's football team, Borussia Mönchengladbach, who consistently finish ahead of the Bundesliga's larger teams. In terms of culture, the Abteiberg has renowned modern and contemporary art in an awe-inspiring postmodern structure lauded by Frank Gehry.
