Mike Tyson faces off against the much taller 6'4" John Alderson. Both men were undefeated and both had very busy scedules. More info below...
Mike Tyson had his national television debut in his previous fight against Ricky Spain, earning a 1st round KO extending his record to 4-0.
John Alderson purportedly had a 154-12 record as an amateur but took 3 years away from the sport before returning as a professional in February 1985. He picked up 3 wins in a row all by KO however none of his opponents had actually won a fight. Alderson was just another lamb being lead to the slaughter...
Alderson was more concerned with running away from Tyson than actually fighting him and spent the first round going backwards throwing out the occasional jab. Although Tyson was busy in the first round he was struggling to pin Alderson down however he did land a good left hook early on that bloodied the nose of Alderson and snapped his head back violently. In the second round Tyson targeted the body more and eventually found the opening he was looking for, landing a left right combo as Alderson was leaning over knocking him to the canvas. Alderson got back to his feet to his credit but was put down again by a short right to the temple just a few seconds later. Following a third knock down on the bell to end the round, a bloody nose and a bad cut above Alderson's left eye, referee Frank Cappuccino called an end to the fight.
Alderson had 3 more fights after losing to Tyson, winning all 3 and retiring with a 6-1 record at the end of 1985.
Tyson scored another dominant easy win however it was not a typical Tyson performance as he was struggling with Alderson's height. Regardless, Tyson racks up another KO victory. Tyson would fight again just 8 days later stopping outclassed Larry Sims in 3 rounds.
