The third and the deciding ODI of the Bangladesh versus India series at Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur was marred with controversy from start to finish. The bad blood continued in the end-of-series trophy photograph taken with both the teams, where the Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana took her players to the dressing room after the jibe at the umpires from Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain.
The issues among both sets of players and umpires began in the 34th over of Team India run chase, when Harmanpreet Kaur was given out off the bowling with Nahida Akter in the slip cordon, while attempting a sweep shot. The batter assumed to be given out lbw initially, but when the umpire made the call of sending her back to the pavilion after the catch was completed, she lost her cool.
Team India were in a comfortable position during their pursuit of a 226-run target, before Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal. But, at the end, they managed to only tie the match, which meant that the ODI series finished level at 1-1 after three pulsating encounters.
Notably, during the end-of-series trophy photograph between Bangladesh and India at Shere Bangla Stadium, Harmanpreet Kaur was quoted as saying, “Bring the umpires too,” suggesting that they were part of the hosts. This made Nigar Sultana speak with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as per the reports, before deciding to take her players to the dressing room. In the post-match press conference, she also went on to say that Harmanpreet Kaur “could have shown better manners”.
