Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has criticized Alec Baldwin for the Rust shooting death, stating that the actor is 10% responsible. Tarantino believes actors should personally inspect their weapons to ensure they are free from bullets before use in scenes. In July, a New Mexico judge dismissed the manslaughter case against Alec after prosecutors placed crucial evidence in an improper file. Alec, who faced 18 months in jail, has since filed suit against Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey and Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza. In April, the armorer on set, Guttierez-Reed, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The shooting occurred on set in 2021, and the director was directing a scene when the gun fired, causing Halyna to die and Joel to be seriously injured.
