Professor Tracey Rogers talks about how where land mammals favour producing low-pitched sounds to advertise how big they are, and sometimes they cheat, marine mammals tend to produce higher-pitched sounds.
Perhaps the marine mammals care less about advertising their body size, as how long they can vocalise, which advertises their breath-holding abilities underwater, seems more important.
