Surf (pretty much) began in the 50s, created by experimental instrumental rock artists (the likes of Dick Dale, Link Wray, the Bel-Airs, or the Ventures), who blended asia-minor, european, and hawaiian influences into their rock. A lot happened between the 50s and the 80s to get surf to surf punk, so lets go over that. This is part one in a miniseries on the history of surf, surf punk, and their close relationship over time, from 1950 to 2020. Slightly scuffed audio is just a reality of living in this place but hopefully its tolerable this time.
