In this angle grinder disassembly/repair video, I walk you through the common problems that can occur with your angle grinder and tell you how to fix each and every one. By checking these areas, I explain how to service an angle grinder yourself to extend its lifetime and address any problems early, without the need for any specialist tools or materials.
While many people will clean out and replace the grease in their angle grinder gearbox as a means of angle grinder maintenance, this isn't always necessary or even helpful, particularly if inferior grease is used. The best way to ensure longevity of your angle grinder is to regularly check for signs of wear, keep the motor clean, and only replace the grease when necessary.
If your angle grinder is losing power, cutting out intermittently, or does not start altogether, by following this video you will likely be able to find the fault in your angle grinder.
The most common fault that occurs with grinders is related to the brushes, often requiring an angle grinder brush replacement. These are the most fragile components, and they are constantly subjected to high speeds and friction which causes them to wear down. Simply taking off the rear of your angle grinder will give you access to these brushes, so you can check that they are able to move smoothly and that they are not excessively worn. Manufacturers know this, which is why most angle grinders come already supplied with extra replacement brushes for you to use.
This video is an essential angle grinder service guide, giving you an angle grinder maintenance checklist which helps to reduce the chance of repair being needed in future.
