So who exactly is the Jailer?

With some heavy Shadowlands spoilers, we've learned a lot more about who this guy is and what is his name. Zovaal, as he is called, is an Eternal one something akin to the titans and apparently, he did something that caused the other Eternal ones to imprison him and to fuel his prison with anima from the other realms.

However apart from that, not much else is known, so I get into a few bits and pieces that we have and try to connect the dots. The message from the Primus of Maldraxxus as well as a few questlines in the Shadowlands beta. So who is the Jailer and why is he imprisoned?
