A friend passed away some years ago.
He was a young man in his forties, with a wonderful life, connections, family, and work.
As he was dying, he wrote a letter to all his friends that they received after his passing.
In it, he said, "I would've wanted more. But I never wanted other."
This profound statement reflects the core of the Buddhist teachings.
The Buddha emphasized cultivating a mind without imperatives, one that can say, "This isn't what I wanted, but it's what I got."
Such a mindset allows for contentment and acceptance in life.
A conversation with Sylvia Boorstein, from the Tricycle Archives.
