STORYLINE:
Orthodox Christians across Russia celebrated Christmas on Thursday despite of the freezing temperatures gripping the country.
In the port city of St Petersburg, local residents held a parade at a Christmas fair in the centre of the city in -25 degrees Celsius (-13 degrees Fahrenheit).
Christmas falls on January 7 for Orthodox Christians in the Holy Land, Russia and other Eastern Orthodox churches that use the old Julian calendar instead of the 16th-century Gregorian calendar adopted by Catholics and Protestants and commonly used in secular life around the world.
