The SES have issued further evacuation warnings overnight for areas in Western Sydney – with particular concerns for low-lying areas in Jamisontown and the Penrith region.
Residents in western Jamisontown were advised to go to an evacuation centre in Castle Hill, with Penrith residents told to evacuate their homes by 4:00pm due to fears the Great Western Highway could cut people off.
Emergency services performed 150 flood rescues in the just the past 24 hours, the majority of which were carried out in Western Sydney – including a man and women who had to be rescued from the roof of their house near the Hawksbury River Bridge.
All roads near the Hawksbury Nepean River have also been blocked off.
Relocating livestock in rural areas of Western Sydney has become a major focus for the SES as the area faces serious flood threats.
The Hawkesbury River at North Richmond peaked at 14.05 metres last night, with Windsor expected to peak at 13 metres tonight.
