With the holidays around the corner, lawmakers said there has to be a sense of urgency to find fixes to the problems at California's congested ports. More than a dozen speakers participated in a four-hour joint informational hearing at the state Capitol today to help legislators identify solutions. "When the pandemic hit, a lot of people restricted goods shipping to protect people’s health, and then there were changes in consumer behavior as we all know," explained Dee Dee Myers, senior advisor to Gov. Gavin Newsom. "We started ordering things online, and then when shipping resumed, increased demand, backlogs in the system and all of that multiplied to create the crisis we’re in today."
