(18 Nov 2018) French President Emmanuel Macron called on Sunday for Europe to examine the consequences of its past and "build a Europe which is more ambitious and open-minded."
Macron was speaking in Berlin at an international youth meeting entitled "Youth for Peace - 100 Years After World War I. 100 Ideas for Peace."
He made the remarks whilst on stage alongside German Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier and youth delegates.
Macron was due to speak in the German parliament in Berlin later on Sunday, an annual day of remembrance for victims of war and dictatorship, a week after the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
He was also set to consult with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on European and international issues.
