This session focused on the experiences of countries located outside of the EU with regard to the implementation of just transition policies. It featured a keynote speech by Commissioner Simson on the EU’s global just transition efforts, including the Just Energy Transition Partnerships and a presentation from an international organisation on their experience of just transition implementation on the ground. These were followed by an online panel discussion between non-EU countries that are in the process of transition (United States, South Africa, Indonesia and Colombia). Panellists shared insights into the different legislation, programmes and funds available in their country and the challenges and opportunities experienced in the past and future years of transition – with a specific focus on how these relate and apply to the EU experience.
