Loggerhead sea turtle is a marine turtle whose cosmopolitan distribution covers Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans and the Mediterranean Sea.
In the Mediterranean basin this specimen is critically endangered especially due to the human impact on nesting sites along the shore and on their frequent collisions with boats.
In addition, turtles are often a bycatch of fishing gears such as trawls or longlines; if they are locked by a hook or a fishing net they can’t go to surface to breathe and die.
This male has been caught in the italian coasts of Adriatic sea by a trawl and has been measured and weighed by researchers before being released.
There are some projects whose aim is to reduce bycatch through the use of different nets and acoustic deterrents.
