In this programme, Professor Lin Yifu, a political economist, begins by pointing out that this is the 40th anniversary of China’s transition from a planned to a market economy. He gives statistics to show how rapidly China’s economy has grown during this time and discusses the reasons China has been successful in transitioning to a market economy. He also explains the latecomer’s advantages and how China can benefit from the technological gap. Mr. Lin also discusses the possible outcomes of a trade war between China and the US and how it would affect other countries.
