On March 23, Asian markets were hammered at the start of the new trading week. Investors were spooked by the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, as more countries announced measures to protect their borders. In Singapore, the benchmark STI was down 7.35% -- its biggest one-day drop since October 2008. South Korea's KOSPI was in the red by 5.34%, while Australia's S&P ASX200 fell by about the same margin. Meanwhile, India's benchmark Sensex suffered its worst ever single-day loss with a 13.15% drop.
