Raya is heat tolerant and relatively hardy crop with respect to insects, diseases and cultivation practices. It is relatively easy crop and farmers of rain fed areas, having fellow land during September, light soil regions such as Thal area, farmers of rain fed area and new or raw handed farmer should prefer Raya cultivation. However, those farmers who want to plant maize or other spring crop after this, then AARI canola is best option under the prevailing conditions of non-availability of imported seeds of mustard and canola. Professional growers who are well aware and also can manage insects and shattering behavior of canola, who are not in hurry to plant next crop and farmers of cool soil and climatic conditions should prefer super or sandal canola.
AARI canola is a relatively short durational variety. Under the scenario of changing climate it has become very difficult to plant it in early September. It may be cultivated at the end of September, harvested in February and spring maize or cotton crop may easily be planted well in time. Yield potential of this variety is 20-25 maunds per acre.
