ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM) in collaboration with its partners raised the need to foster the exchange of knowledge and bring together the experiences available on Agricultural Risk Management (ARM) in developing countries with the objective to build and develop a more structured collection of good practices and lessons learned on ARM as guidance for policy makers and rural development practitioners to strategically implement and mainstream ARM. For this purpose, the Platform has organizing an International Workshop on practices and lessons learned for development in Agricultural Risk Management on 25 October 2017, at IFAD headquarters in Rome, Italy.

- Opening Remarks & Workshop Objectives
Adolfo Brizzi, Director for the Policy and Technical Advisory Division of the International Funds for Agricultural Development (IFAD) welcomes participants and introduces the importance of how integrating risk management in policies and programming can ensure that farmers livelihoods are not threatened by risks, and that communities can build resilience. His remarks are followed by the introduction of the main workshop objectives by the workshop facilitator Maria Magdalena Heinrich from FAO.
- Session 1: Setting the scene "What makes a good ARM project?"
The first session of the day served to set the scene and focus of the workshop debates, to create a common ground among all participants. In particular, the panel discussion aims at reaching an agreement on what key pillars for a “good ARM project/initiative/tool” could be, looking at the different project phases, from design to implementation and therefore results.
- Session 4: Mainstreaming ARM holistic approach into policy for better design and investment.
With the participation of his excellency Hon. Hon. Minister Vincent F. Bamulangaki Ssempijja Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry & Fisheries, Uganda this last panel discussion aimed at providing experiences and discuss what is needed to mainstream ARM into policy, to encourage investments into agriculture and to engage the private sector and other stakeholders. For a sustainable integration of ARM into policy, it is essential to ensure the engagement of all actors/stakeholders at the different levels (country, regional and global).
Session 2 and 3 were interactive working group sessions and outcomes of the discussions can be found in the workshop report and publication that will be available end of November 2017.
