"I think that the presence of Foreign Minister Natalegawa, who made a really gracious and lovely speech yesterday, is a sign that the Indonesians took the commemoration very seriously indeed. After all, there were many Indonesians killed that terrible night, as well as 88 Australians, and the fact that the Indonesians put so much effort into organising the ceremony, into ensuring that the ceremony was the greatest possible success, I think is a tribute to their respect for our country."

9. SOUNDBITE: (English) Tony Abbott, Australian opposition leader:
"As President Yudhoyono and others in Indonesia have said time and time again, Australia needs to, quote, take the sugar off the table, quote unquote, and that's why a very important element in our policy is the restoration of temporary protection visas, so that the people smugglers don't have a product to sell, they can't sell to potential illegal boat arrivals the prospect of permanent residency in Australia, so the Indonesians are very well aware of our policy. They understand that turning boats around is but one element of that policy."

STORYLINE:
Australian opposition leader, Tony Abbott, began a three-day visit to Indonesia on Saturday, after attending the commemoration of the Bali bombings.
Abbott brought with him some shadow ministers, including Julie Bishop, shadow Foreign Secretary, Scott Morrison, shadow Minister of Immigration, and John Cobb, shadow Minister of Agriculture.
During his visit, Abbott is scheduled to visit several development projects funded by the Australian government, including AusAid water projects, and a disaster coordination centre.
On Sunday, he is scheduled to meet senior officials at the Ministry of Agriculture.
The suicide bombers who struck in Bali in 2002 killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists, when one blew himself up inside and another set off a car bomb at the popular Sari Club and Paddy's Pub.
Australia suffered more deaths in the attacks than any other country.
A memorial service was held on a Friday to remember the victims.
"There were many Indonesians killed that terrible night, as well as 88 Australians," Abbot said on Saturday.
"The fact that the Indonesians put so much effort into organising the ceremony, into ensuring that the ceremony was the greatest possible success, I think is a tribute to their respect for our country," he continued.
Abbot also commented on Australian asylum seeker policy, including boats carrying migrants being turned back to Indonesia when caught in Australian waters.
They understand that turning boats around is but one element of that policy," he said.
