THE head of the Scottish Prison Service today insisted that the decision to move Isla Bryson out of an all-women’s prison was “in no way” one that was made by ministers.
Convicted double rapist Bryson was initially held at Cornton Vale - a move which sparked backlash amid safety fears.
Bryson was transferred to HMP Edinburgh after “ministerial concerns” were raised with the SPS.
However, Teresa Medhurst - the chief executive of the service - said that the decision was taken by “operational people”, as she rejected suggestions of political interference.
Ms Medhurst and Justice Secretary Keith Brown were quizzed by MSPs about transgender prisoners during an appearance at Holyrood’s Criminal Justice Committee.
