Yes we do say going down the leg. Yes this may differ from what your coach/Lecturer tells you. It doesn't matter! So long as the technique is correct.
Going down the leg goes with the hair and is more comfortable. Going up the leg provides movement of oedema towards the lymph node, it depends on the circumstances. In an ideal world:
Efflurage: Down the leg with the hair
Petrissage: Going up the leg towards the nearest lymph node
PROM: Toes to Hip
