Argentina has spent nearly two months in coronavirus quarantine, one of the strictest approaches in South America. President Alberto Fernandez implemented the lockdown on March 20 and has acknowledged there will be economic consequences.
The lockdown has also hit one of the biggest shantytowns in the capital city of Buenos Aires.
"The situation is alarming today in the neighborhood of Villa 31. There are more than 900 positive cases of Covid-19 and 4 neighbors died. For all this, we need authorities to come to the table in a serious and real manner,” says 36-year-old resident Karina Calla.
Community members are calling the government to help them with basic necessities like water and food during the lockdown.
