And now for the details on this video!
Growing update on the Turmeric plants. Having started trying to grow these Turmeric rhizomes back in March we are now in the month of June, with decent growth in a few of the rhizome sections.
Now that some sections are growing I have decided that it’s time to pot some up. I’ve chosen just to plant 3 sections into one pot that is 4.5ltr in volume and leave the other pieces to do their thing in the seed tray.
My potting up mix is multi-purpose compost that contains about 10% of John Innes loam. To that mixture I’m again adding perlite, for improved drainage.
Fill the container about three quarters full with the compost mix and lightly form down. Evenly space out 3 Turmeric rhizomes onto the compost surface and then cover with more compost. Carefully firm the compost around the rhizome sections adding additional compost until the finished level is achieved. I make sure that I leave a 1 inch (3-4cm) gap between the top of the pot and the finishing level of compost. This gap allows for easy watering.
Literally after a couple of weeks of potting up the Turmeric shoots have bulked up and looking much broader and happy.
I just need to wait now for the plants to spread so that further Turmeric rhizomes can develop, ready to use.
