Manchester City are in town again for the second time in a month and looking for some revenge after being knocked out of the TV & Video retail store Cup in December. They didn't get it. After taking the lead through player manager Peter Reid in the first half, City looked comfortable and threatened to get another. A late flourish from Boro though put paid to Cities cup hopes for another season as future City player Alan Kernaghan headed in the equaliser from a corner and Paul Wilkinson half-volleyed the winner after a hopeful punt upfield from Jamie Pollock. Amusingly, Wilkinson lost his bearings a little after scoring and forgot that the 8000 travelling City fans were behind the goal he'd just scored into and began a wild celebration in front of them!
