The UK has a drug problem.
There are thousands of drug related deaths every year, most acutely felt in Scotland, and yet government policy is doing remarkably little about it.
In fact the key piece of drugs legislation, the Misuse of Drugs Act, is more than 50 years old.
It's almost as if there's no way to save the lives of vulnerable citizens instead of treating them as criminals.
Except there is an alternative, in Europe, with a remarkable record of decriminalisation. We went to Portugal to find out if its model could work in the UK.
