Does Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Football program have a plan in recruiting & the transfer portal?
Geoff Ketchum, publisher of Orangebloods.com along with Anwar Richardson, Texas Longhorns beat reporter from Orangebloods.com discuss the landscape of Texas High School football recruiting as Ketch says: "It's never been more crowded in trying to recruit the state of Texas than at present."
National signing day for the early recruiting period is December 15, 2021.
Ketch and Anwar discuss the fallout in recruiting from Steve Sarkisian's first year at Texas, a season in which the Longhorns finished 5-7. In terms of recruiting, the 5-7 season for Sark in his first season is a disaster, especially as the walls within the state of Texas start closing in on the Longhorns in terms of recruiting.
Anwar brings up the point that many of the kids now were 2 or 3 years old in 2006 when Vince Young ran over USC to win the Longhorns a national title. Many of these kids don't even remember when Texas won a Big 12 title most recently, so they do not have much recent success to recruit from, especially when compared to Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and perhaps USC under Lincoln Riley.
Ketch says his top thing in recruiting right now is does this Texas Longhorns coaching staff have an actual plan in recruiting? Ketch says the Texas Longhorns coaching staff under Steve Sarkisian so strongly believes in their abilities as recruiters that they're planning this recruiting class with a bunch of names, like Evan Stewart, that they aren't going to get. Do they have a plan? Does Texas have a plan in recruiting? Does Texas have a plan in the transfer portal? Ketch says some of the offers of late to mid to high 3-star guys does not inspire a ton of confidence, and if they're "developmental" guys, Texas and Steve Sarkisian do not have the grace of time in order to develop these kids. Texas Longhorns have to win and win immediately.
Ketch and Anwar wonder if Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns football program feel the desperation they should feel to be ultra aggressive in recruiting and the transfer portal.
"This is not a team that can afford another 5-7 or 6-6 season."
