In this video, Andrew will guide you through the process of stripping speaker wire. Whether you're setting up a new audio system or tweaking an existing one, mastering the technique of stripping speaker wire is essential. Let's break it down with the following steps.
Tools and Materials:
- Speaker wire
- Wire cutters (optional)
- Wire strippers
Steps:
1. Prepare Your Speaker Wire:
Start by cutting the speaker wire to your desired length making sure there's enough slack to reach from your amplifier to your speakers, with some extra for adjustments.
2. Using Wire Strippers:
- Place the speaker wire inside the wire stripper tool, leaving about a half inch, and choose the appropriate notch for the wire's gauge.
- Gently squeeze the handles of the stripper tool to cut through the insulation without harming the wire.
- Carefully pull the stripped insulation away from the wire, exposing the bare wire.
3. Twist the Bare Wire Ends:
After stripping away the insulation, twist the exposed wire strands together to prevent fraying, making it easier to insert into your audio equipment or speaker terminals.
Alternative Method - Use a Utility Knife:
If you don't have wire strippers, a utility knife can be an alternative.
- Gently score the insulation by making a circular cut around the wire, being careful not to cut into the wire itself.
- After making the cut, use your fingers to separate and remove the insulation.
And there you have it! You've successfully stripped your speaker wire. Remember to exercise caution when using tools like wire strippers or utility knives to avoid injury.
