Have you heard of Psychiatric Neurosurgery, or also known as Psychosurgery?
So ... for many, many years, neurosurgical procedures have been performed with the aim of modifying emotions, behavior ...! For example the Peruvian Incas made trepanations ("holes" in the skull) for the purpose of curing mental illnesses. Subsequently was proposed by Freeman and that was "famous" had the prefrontal lobotomy. Personally it turns out that patients stay after surgery with apathy, disorientation ... and then raises the doubt, is it worth taking away the emotions of the human being to leave you a being "without emotion"? This is one reason why using this technique was abandoned.
It occurs that as we know medicine, neurosurgery, has evolved a lot and with the incorporation of technologies and detailed learning of brain functioning today we can cartesianally make modifications in specific areas of the brain so that "specific" symptoms can be treated. They are surgical procedures of small openings in the skull but great changes for those who suffer!
Among the main mental disorders that can find the best results with psychosurgery are: major depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and unmotivated aggression (people who self-mutilate and attack others). Obviously it is a form of treatment for strictly selected cases, where one has the refractoriness to other therapeutic options and there is a great loss where the patient can not lead a normal life.
The video in question has strictly didactic purposes. Nothing more than that.
