Have you heard of Psychiatric Neurosurgery, or also known as Psychosurgery?
So ... for many, many years, neurosurgical procedures have been performed with the aim of modifying emotions, behavior ...! For example the Peruvian Incas made trepanations ("holes" in the skull) for the purpose of curing mental illnesses.
