(12 Feb 2020) UK defence secretary Ben Wallace said Wednesday that NATO will do "whatever the Iraqis request" to help bolster the country's fight against the Islamic State (IS) movement.
His comments came as NATO defence ministers began a two-day meeting in Brussels.
They're discussing a plan to move more than 200 trainers from the anti-IS coalition to NATO's own mission in Iraq.
The plan is a response to President Donald Trump's demand that U.S. allies do more in the Middle East.
"We will do whatever the Iraqis request of us, and we think it is really important to be in Iraq. We need to help them nation-build, to improve their security by helping them to deliver their own security," Wallace said.
"What we are going to explore is whether that NATO is the right organisation to deliver that," he added.
So what we are going to explore is whether NATO is the right organisation to deliver that.
