Pillar Falls is a hidden gem located in Twin Falls, Idaho. Situated in the Snake River canyon, just east of the I.B. Perrine Bridge, these falls are a sight to behold. Towering Rhyolite pillars accentuate the cascading falls, creating a stunning backdrop for kayakers and hikers alike.
But be warned, the area can be dangerous. Always check water levels before visiting, as high water levels can make the falls impossible to explore. And even when the water is low, it is never safe to swim at Pillar Falls. Powerful undercurrents can sweep away even the strongest swimmers.
If you're not up for a kayak or boat trip, you can still catch a glimpse of the falls from above. The Snake River Canyon Rim Trail offers stunning views, as does Jerome's Snake River Canyon Parks. But for a truly unique experience, grab a kayak or boat and make the 2-mile trip from Centennial Waterfront Park to the portage site.
Summer is the best time to visit, as the water levels are lower and you can explore the rock formations and pools at your leisure. Just remember to wear a life jacket and always be cautious around the falls. Pillar Falls may be a hidden gem, but it's one that should be admired from a safe distance.
